The HEA Teaching & Learning Conference 2025, held in December 2025 under the theme Leading Change Together: Building the Future of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, brought the higher education community together at a time of significant transition across the sector. The conference provided space to consider national policy developments and to examine how change is being led, experienced and sustained in practice, across institutions, disciplines and roles.

This compendium brings together the poster case studies showcased at the conference. The submissions reflect work that is already underway across higher education in Ireland and capture how colleagues are responding to shared challenges through collaboration, experimentation and partnership. They offer a snapshot of a sector actively engaged in shaping the future of teaching and learning.

The conference theme, Leading Change Together, is reflected strongly in the initiatives documented here. While the case studies span a wide range of contexts and priorities — including Education for Sustainable Development, digital transformation and generative AI, academic integrity, inclusive assessment, professional learning and student success — a common thread runs through them. Change is rarely presented as the work of individuals acting alone. Instead, these projects show how progress is being made through collective effort: across academic and professional roles, between staff and students, within and between institutions, and in partnership with national bodies.

The conference took place against the backdrop of a year of important national developments in teaching and learning. The Higher Education Authority launched a new Strategy for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, setting out a renewed national vision and a clear framework to guide policy, investment and engagement over the coming years. The strategy places particular emphasis on leadership, collaboration, professional recognition and evidence-informed practice. These priorities are evident throughout the case studies in this compendium, many of which have been supported through Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement (SATLE) funding.

Importantly, the case studies do not present change as linear or complete. Many describe work that is ongoing, evolving and responsive to context. They reflect thoughtful engagement with complexity — whether in embedding sustainability across curricula, navigating the opportunities and tensions associated with generative AI, or rethinking assessment and support structures to better meet student needs. In this sense, the compendium offers insights into how institutions are learning, adapting and building capacity over time.

This publication serves as a record of the poster showcase at the HEA Teaching & Learning Conference 2025 and as a resource for the wider sector. It is intended to support shared learning, encourage dialogue and provide practical reference points for those leading and supporting teaching and learning change in their own contexts. Above all, it reflects a collective commitment across higher education to work together — across boundaries and roles — to strengthen teaching and learning and to support student success in a changing environment.
