This Compendium provides a snapshot of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) practice across the higher education sector in Ireland. It includes recordings from the Higher Education Authority (HEA) ESD Spotlight Series along with submitted case studies and Open Educational Resources (OERs). This resource aims to demonstrate that ESD practice transcends disciplinary boundaries and works best when integrated holistically across the curriculum.
We hope that the examples shared in this compendium will inspire and empower others to embed ESD into their everyday academic practice to provide creative and action-oriented learning experiences for our students, communities and business.
Our sincerest thanks to all the contributors included in this compendium; we are delighted to see such commitment to sustainability, climate action, and the SDGs across the higher education sector in Ireland.
About the author
Dr Mark Kelly is on secondment with the Higher Education Authority National Forum as a policy advisor on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Mark is the Head of the ATU Galway-Mayo Centre for Sustainability and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Building and Civil Engineering.
